Eucalyptus essential oils are a popular ingredient in many homemade soaps primarily for their antimicrobial properties as well as their scent. Making or purchasing the oil is not that difficult or expensive, and it only takes a few drops per bar or container of soap. Using it as a bath bomb is a great alternative, and they are very easy to prepare and store over the long-term.
Basic Ingredients:
1 cup of citric acid (preferably in crystal or powder form)
2 cups of baking soda
½ cup of Epsom salt
Around 10 drops of eucalyptus essential oil
To get started, combine the dry ingredients in large bowl and mix together. Add in the essential oils and stir. You may notice that the product starts to fizz a bit, and this is normal and an indication that the recipe is working. Next, you want to take a spray bottle with water and give it a squirt or two as you mix the ingredients together. You don’t need more than a couple of tablespoons of water for this recipe, and the aim is to make the mixture just moist enough to prevent it from being powdery or crumbling.
Once the mixture is ready, all you need to do is spoon and press it into soap molds or an ice cube tray. Make sure that the material is firmly packed before flipping the tray or molds over, giving them a tap and letting the bath bombs fall out. Allow them to rest in a cool, dry location for about 24 hours before storing in an airtight container or plastic zipper bag. When ready to use, just drop it into your bath water and it will fizz as it dissolves.
Make yourself a batch today, and see how a nice, warm bath with these soap bombs can help the next time you experience any of the ailments listed above. Not only can they help you to feel better now, but this is a great way to make life a little easier on the road to self-sufficiency as well.
