Natural Antibiotic Remedies You Can Prepare Yourself
Nature has a way of providing us with what we need to treat a wide-range of ailments, and this includes infections. Antibiotic ointments and creams are so inexpensive and readily-available that a lot of people don’t think about preparing their own remedies. However, taking the natural route can often be just as effective and much-more beneficial to our overall health. Let’s look at a couple of remedies that you can make with some common ingredients in a few easy steps.
Antibacterial Ointment
To make this remedy, you will need 2 tablespoons of coconut oil and 2 drops each of the following essential oils: Oregano or tea tree, lavender, frankincense and helichrysum. You also need 2 teaspoons of beeswax pellets along with a salve tin.
The first step is to melt the beeswax and coconut oil over very low heat in a double boiler. You don’t want to cook the solids, rather heat them just enough that they turn into a liquid. Stir well to make sure they are mixed evenly. Add in the essential oils one by one, continuing to stir until everything is blended. Remove from heat and carefully pour into the medicine tin. Leave uncovered until it cools and hardens, and feel free to place it in the refrigerator to speed up the process. Cover and store in a cool, dark place until needed. Apply like any other ointment, cover with a bandage and repeat twice a day until the wound begins to heal.
Potent Wound Cream
This recipe will produce a remedy that is similar to a first aid cream, and it can be an excellent choice for cuts, scrapes, skin abrasions, rashes and blisters. You will need ½ cup of olive and coconut oil, 1/3 cup of dried calendula and dried lavender, 4 tablespoons of beeswax pellets, 10 drops of tea tree oil, 5-8 drops of lavender essential oil and about a tablespoon of real, raw bee honey.
Add the coconut and olive oil to a double boiler and slowly warm it up until the coconut oil melts. Sprinkle in the dried lavender and calendula, stir and let steep over low heat for about 30 minutes. Place a coffee filter over a small bowl and pour the liquid through the material in order to separate the solids. Discard the solids and pour the remaining liquid back into the double boiler over low heat. Add in the beeswax and stir until it melts before adding the honey and cooking for another minute or so.
Remove from heat and stir in the essential oils before pouring the liquid into medicine tins. Keep in mind that this remedy will begin to solidify and turn into a very thick creamy spread. Attach the lids once the cream has cooled to room temperature and store the tins in a cool, dark place. Apply as needed, and you may be surprised at how quickly these minor wounds can heal.
The nice thing about these and other homemade antibiotic remedies is that they help to support the body’s immune system during the healing process. Most commercially-available products only treat the injury, and the ingredients can be harsh. While we can’t make any promises that these remedies will work in every situation, they may turn out to be an welcome addition to your survival medicine cabinet.
