Is FEMA There To Help Or Harm?

FEMAIn the event of a national crisis, the Federal Emergency Management Agency can be empowered to run the entire country. The constitution can be suspended, civil rights taken away and our free nation can turn in to a police state over night. While many argue that this will only happen during times of significant crisis that warrants severe intervention, many people believe that a manufactured crisis can be used to allow the government to take over the country. The agency was created in order to provide relief and disaster management services if a disastrous national emergency happened, but their scope and range of power has significantly increased over the years.

With the stroke of a pen, the President can order that martial law be put in to effect, and FEMA would take over. They would have control over everything- from our banking and manufacturing system to food and supply distribution. They would be in charge of our ports, airports, roads, railroads and shipping networks. They would have the ability to seize communication, limit and monitor the use of the Internet and round up and arrest anyone they wanted without the benefit of due process. This is intended to maintain order in a time when chaos would be the rule of the day, but the fear is that they can use these powers to literally change the face of America and take our freedoms away once and for all.

In the event of a real crisis, there is no telling if FEMA would be a good or bad option to have. Since their powers were never truly enacted before to the degree that they are allowed, we have no experience with what they will do. But, the government does not have a really strong track record with performing well under stress, and their responses to previous disasters have not been all that remarkable. However, things have changed since Katrina, but we have not tested their ability through a crisis since then. One thing is for certain, many people are a little nervous about letting the government have more control over our daily lives than they already have.

Ideally, FEMA will organize and manage life for us when normal systems break down, such as a national disaster, war or economic collapse. They will ensure that food and transportation networks are open, that homeland security is enforced and that people feel safe to walk the streets. However, the reality is that we will be prisoners in our own country, with few rights and few resources that we can call our own. They can seize our land and property, detain and question us and take away our arms. They can force us in to labor camps and segregate and detain suspects such as those who have been in Guantanamo for the better part of the last decade.

It only takes one major crisis to kick in the power that FEMA has, and it is only a matter of time before all of us will become subjected to the unlimited might of the government. You need to be ready just in case what they offer turns out to be much worse than the consequences of the particular incident that caused their rise to power. We will be required to rely on them for food, water, utilities, money, communication, health care and every other aspect of our daily needs. Do you really think that the government will be able to really help every citizen in this country?

The reality is that we need to learn how to take care of ourselves, and to be as self-reliant as possible if and when our way of life is suddenly turned upside down. It will happen, and those who are prepared to live in a post-apocalyptic society will do much better than those who rely on the government for help and direction. Learning to survive and to be self-reliant is a skill that many of our forefathers cherished. People used to have a greater hand in their own destiny and lives, and it wasn’t until recently when we all started to depend on someone else for survival.

In order to meet the dangers, threats and challenges that will come our way, we need to get familiar with basic survival skills and practices that will help us to be come more in control over our own destiny. Don’t think for a second that the government will help you when they take over the country. You will be much better off if you know how to secure your own food, supplies, be able to set up camp in a new location and build a life outside of the mainstream. FEMA is a greater threat than almost any disaster that we will encounter, and their long arm over our lives is a lot closer than you may think.
