General Honore speaks about what it takes to be a great leader. What do the great ones have in common, you ask? They all gave up something important to tend to their goals. They sacrificed. According to Honore, there are three things that make a great leader.
1. Do the routine things well
Practice makes perfect, right? Focus on developing the skills you already have. Don’t get distracted by what else is out there. Successful leaders excel because they dominate and master a single thing.
2. Don’t be afraid to take on the impossible
Honore jokes about how the Wright Brothers stole a table cloth from their mother, gathered some sticks, and jumped off a cliff. As there was clearly more to it than that, their moment of curiosity and drive led to the creation of the airplane, which many thought was impossible at the time. So next time you’re met with impossibility, aim to change it.
3. Don’t be afraid to act even when you’re being criticized
Be confident in who you are, what you’re capable of, and what you believe in. Great leaders aren’t afraid to keep the line moving when someone jumps out. They know their course of action, stick to their guns, and aren’t deterred by alternative opinions.
